Interscalene brachial plexus block for shoulder surgery.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES To evaluate the efficacy of interscalene brachial plexus block as the primary anesthetic for shoulder surgery, the influence on blood loss, and the rate of complication. METHODS Retrospective review of 676 reconstructive surgical procedures of the shoulder for anesthetic technique (regional or general), regional anesthetic technique (paresthesia versus nerve stimulat...
متن کاملPlasma concentrations of bupivacaine and two of its metabolites during continuous interscalene brachial plexus block.
An interscalene brachial plexus block was performed via a catheter with 20-28 ml of 0.75% bupivacaine plus adrenaline for surgery of the shoulder region in 12 patients. Constant infusion of 0.25% bupivacaine 0.25 mg kg-1 h-1 was continued for 24 h. During surgery light general anaesthesia, without analgesics, was maintained. Plasma concentrations of total and unbound (free fraction) bupivacaine...
متن کاملComparison of the Effects of Bupivacaine and Levobupivacaine Used in Spinal Anesthesia on Propofol Requirement in BIS Guided Sedation
Objective: This study was designed to compare the effects of equivalent doses of bupivacaine and levobupivacaine on propofol requirement in BIS guided sedation under spinal anesthesia. Material and Methods: Spinal anesthesia was performed on seventy patients scheduled for elective lower limb surgery with 3 mL’s of either isobaric bupivacaine (Group B) or plain levobupivacaine (Group L). Five mi...
متن کاملClinical Comparison of Two Different Volumes of 0.5% Bupivacaine for Clavicular Surgeries Using Combined Interscalene and Superficial Cervical Plexus Block
Context: The use of ultrasound in regional anaesthesia has resulted in reduction in local anaesthetic volume and adverse effects. Aim : This study aims to compare the quality of analgesia and incidence of adverse effects using two different volumes of 0.5 % bupivacaine for clavicular surgeries by ultrasound guided combined interscalene and superficial cervical plexus block. Settings and Design:...
متن کاملComparison of Interscalene Brachial Plexus Block Performed With and Without Steroids.
This prospective comparative clinical study was performed to evaluate the effect of triamcinolone when added to bupivacaine during brachial plexus blockade in patients undergoing shoulder surgery. Interscalene brachial plexus blocks were performed on 910 patients before shoulder surgery. Of the patients, 574 were randomly allocated to receive steroids added to the injected local anesthetic and ...
